Owner FAQs
What is the Napa River Flood Protection Project?
The Napa River Flood Protection Project is a community-wide initiative that has been in development for over five decades following major historic flooding events. It represents Napa’s long-term commitment to protecting its riverfront while expanding access, recreation, and connection to downtown.
After significant flooding in the 1980s, federal, state, and local partners worked together to develop a lasting solution.
The current phase marks the final completion of this transformative effort.
Why is RiverPointe part of this project?
RiverPointe is located along one of Napa’s most cherished natural features — the Napa River. The final phase of the flood protection project includes construction of permanent flood walls on the resort, along with expanded walking trail improvements that will strengthen the entire riverfront corridor.
What changes will occur at RiverPointe?
As part of this phase, 18 river-adjacent cottages will be removed through eminent domain to make way for the permanent flood wall and riverfront improvements. These cottages have long been favorites for many owners and guests, and we honor the important role they’ve played in the RiverPointe experience.
What stays the same about the RiverPointe experience?
The river walk will continue to be accessible, and the character of enjoying the Napa River — walking, relaxing, and taking in the setting — will remain central to the resort experience.
The way owners and guests access the riverfront will evolve once the flood protection project is complete. Direct river views from the cottages will change, and access to the river trail will be through gates at either end of the property.
What’s exciting is that the expanded riverfront trail will create a safe and scenic connection between RiverPointe and downtown Napa. Owners and guests will be able to stroll or bike along the river to nearby restaurants, tasting rooms, shops, and events—opening up a whole new way to experience Napa from the resort.
As the project is completed, RiverPointe will continue exploring ways to shape the guest experience around these new riverfront connections.
What are the long-term benefits for owners?
Completion of the flood protection project brings meaningful long-term improvements, including:
- Permanent flood protection for Napa’s riverfront
- Elimination of seasonal cottage move-offs
- More consistent year-round availability
- Increased winter and spring travel opportunities
- Greater operational predictability for owners and guests
Earlier phases have already proven successful in reducing flooding impacts during high-water events.
What is the most exciting future change for RiverPointe owners?
One of the most exciting outcomes is a newly expanded, safe, walkable riverfront connection between RiverPointe and downtown Napa.
When complete, owners and guests will be able to:
- Stroll or bike directly from the resort
- Enjoy restaurants, tasting rooms, shops, and events nearby
- Experience Napa without needing to drive a few blocks
This project will open up a whole new way to enjoy the destination — making RiverPointe an even more connected and walkable home base.
How is RiverPointe preparing for the future?
RiverPointe is actively planning how to adapt and enhance the guest experience during and after construction. Our focus is on ensuring the resort remains welcoming, walkable, and deeply connected to the riverfront.
